Abstract

Towards practice of strategic planning, in the city of Sorocaba (SP) has been constructed a municipal identity associated with the principles of a healthy, educator and future city. Several projects of urban intervention are being developed according to interests and agents associated with the strategic promotion of the city, consequently, contribute to the current dynamics of local transformation of urban space. The main objective of this research is to value the current strategic policy adopted in Sorocaba , in the reach of projects envisioned in the guidelines 'City of the Future', intended to promote local economic development and improving the quality of urban life. It is proposed to conduct geographical study dedicated to the exploration of variables and intra-urban indicators, capable of revealing different demands and socio-spatial heterogeneity, which may be evaluated by current projects of the city government, appointed as promoter of a positive future for the development and to improve the quality of urban life. Arguments will be developed based on the mapping of the processes of production of urban space , exploring the expedient of geotechnology and production of intra-urban measures , support for a diagnostic discussion about the present situation and prognosis of the future that has been designed for the city, based on the combined development between economic growth and social and urban welfare.
