Abstract

By considering relevant the influence of the muscles on the function of the stomatognathic system, this study seeks to assess the behavior and the performance of the masticatory muscles with the presence of diabetes mellitus and hypertension. This study aims to compare the thickness of the masseter and temporal muscles and bite force between healthy subjects and subjects with diabetes mellitus and/or hypertension. For the analysis of muscle thickness will be acquired ultrasound images of the masseter and temporal muscles of both sides, the mandibular rest position and clenching in maximum intercuspation using ultrasound machine SonoSite Titan. The maximum molar bite force (right and left) values will be obtained using a digital dynamometer model IDDK (Kratos). The measures will be taken in one session getting three measures on each side, alternating left and right, with an interval of two minutes between each bite. The data collected will be submitted to statistical analysis using comparison tests (Student t test) and Pearson and Spearman correlation, considering the confidence interval of 95%. After statistical analysis of the data will be the preparation of papers for publication in international journal of scientific articles, as well as the final report. (AU)
