Abstract

Considering the point of view of the patient, the diagnosis of epilepsy can lead to changes in self-perception due to comorbidities such as learning and behavior problems, as well as overprotective attitudes of parents, lack of academic motivation, low frequency and low self-esteem. The self-concept is a mechanism of self-assessment, as it refers to the evaluation which the individual makes of himself in different areas, and to the appreciation towards himself. The present study aims to assess the self-concept of children with epilepsy, subdividing it into areas such as intellectual and academic status, behavior, anxiety, appearance, popularity and satisfaction, and to check if there is and what are the differences between these children and the typically developing children in relation to their self-concept. This is an applied study, non-experimental, cross-sectional, of character quali-quantitative and descriptive. Will be participating in this study 80 children divided into two groups: Group 1 will consist of 40 children with epilepsy aged between 8 and 14 years of both sexes and Group 2 will consist of 40 typically developing children to be organized compared to group 1. It will be applied the assessment tool Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale translated and adapted, along with a characterization form of the individual. Will be used nonparametric tests to analyze the data. (AU)
