Abstract

Imaging related studies are essential to understanding the development of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders and the interactive effects of environmental and genetic factors on brain structure and function. Such studies have been generating high dimensional and complex data sets, demanding innovative statistical methodologies. My research is in the development of statistical methodology which brings together techniques from machine learning, high dimensional low sample size strategies and random factor models to tackle the challenges presented by the aforementioned data type. The goal is to develop a new paradigm for modeling the association between imaging data, clinical variables and genetic information. The proposed approach is challenging and the statistical tools motivated by it have great potential for wide-ranging applications.
