Abstract

The design of wood pieces on request axially compressive stresses passed for several changes in its formulation in the revisions made in the Brazilian standard NBR 7190 - Project Timber Structures. Of the method of allowable stresses for the method of limit states. The adoption of a resistance curve based on the critical Euler force, proportional limit and linear interpolation due to slenderness ranges for the consideration of eccentricities, the consideration of creep and displacement magnification factor. In its review process, in the final phase, the design of parts subject to compression parallel to grain waives consideration of creep, bands slenderness and uses the so-called relative slenderness. This paper presents the various regulatory procedures already used for the sizing of pieces of wood subjected to compression parallel to grain, discussing their theoretical bases and their characteristics, as well as a comparative analysis of the procedures adopted.
