Abstract

Materials such as concrete with recycled aggregate (RAC) are being studied due to the increasing need to the exploitation of natural resources and reduce the volume of construction and demolition waste disposed of in landfills. However, the recycled aggregates show a reduction in mechanical properties due to its higher porosity. In parallel, it is well known that the use of fibres can improve the mechanical properties of concrete, especially in the post-cracking condition, and fibres may help to make feasible the use of RAC in specific applications. The parameterization of the behaviour of steel fibres-reinforced recycled coarse aggregates concrete (SFRCAC), according to the recent criteria of design codes for structural purposes, has not been carried out yet. In this context, the study aims to characterize the RAC with different percentages of substitution of natural aggregates for recycled ones and different contents of steel fibres to identify the potential of this material in meeting the requirements established for structural applications. The characterization will be carried out by means of flexion tests (EN 14651), axial compression, modulus of elasticity and specific mass and with these characterizations will be defined parameters that allow the calibration of a multiscale numerical model considering the physical properties of both fibres and aggregates. As result, it is expected to contribute to a better understanding of the behaviour of the material and to the dissemination of the use of this composite as a structural material. (AU)
