Abstract

The prevalence of the mental disorders in the population and its consequences in their life quality and finances are as important as the ones caused by physical disorders. The primary care units are the first contact of the carriers of mental disorders with the health system however, several studies show that a significant amount of general physicians fail to diagnose these diseases. The utilization of simple instruments for screening of mental disorders by these professionals could contribute for an improvement on the detection of these disorders. Therefore, it stands out the importance of the development of new tools for the screening of mental disorders, in the primary care units, using valid psychometric characteristics. The objective of this project is organize and study the psychometric characteristics of a screening tool for mental disorders, gathering the relevant questions of several screening tools and calling it MINI Screening of Mentals Disorders (in Portuguese, MINI Rastreio para Transtornos Mentais - MINI RTM). The study of the psychometric characteristics of the screening tool is going to be realized in random sample per household, representing the population from a region in the West and Central Health districts of Ribeirão Preto. This region is covered by the primary care units linked to the Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto (FMRP). The subjects will be interviewed in their houses by Medicine students, trained in MINI-RTM and in the MINI interview, for possible confirmation of diagnostics in Mental Health. The authenticity of the MINI-RTM will be evaluated comparing the results from the first and the second application of the tools, through the Kappa values. For the evaluation of predictive validity of the screening instruments, it will be considered the presence or absence of psychiatric disorders diagnosed by the MINI interview. (AU)
