Abstract

The use of legal drugs like alcohol and tobacco are currently part of the prominent public health issues in Brazil, although the population has often demonstrated more concerns with the consumption of illegal drugs such as crack, cocaine and marijuana. Data from national surveys show that our reality of drug use is similar to other countries, although it has some peculiarities that must be respected in the development of prevention programs, which are appropriate for our population. The GAIN Short Screener, which takes 5 minutes to administer, aims to rapidly identify the population who may have mental disorders (psychiatric disorders, internal and external disorders caused by substance use or problems with crime and violence). The GAIN-SS suggests the need for referral to treatment systems, and also has the functionality to measure periodically to assess changes in health during the course of time. Based on what has been stated above, the study aims to validate the instrument GAIN Short screnner for use in Brazil, measuring the properties of reliability and content validity of this instrument.
