Abstract

Zooplankton includes microscopic animals that live suspended in the water and are considered indicators of environmental quality, because their sensitivity to changes in the aquatic environment due to anthropogenic interference. The Cantareira System is composed of five reservoirs covering 12 cities in two states in Southeastern Brazil. Despite recording a few negative impacts relative to other water sources, it is necessary to monitor these sites, intending to follow the evolution of quality. In this sense, this proposal is to characterize the zooplankton community (density, abundance, richness and biomass) in Cantareira System and analyze the spatial and temporal distribution of the species. Also aims to relate the quantitative data of zooplankton with the physical and chemical parameters, aiming to provide information on the environmental quality of the reservoirs. The sample included 19 points in two seasons at five dams: Jaguari, Jacarei waterfall Atibainha and Paiva Castro. Samples were collected with conical mesh network 68 m and fixed in formalin with carbonated water. To score, the methodology of subsampling and taxonomic identification will be made to the current literature will be used. The biomass of dominant species will be estimated using the gravimetric method and biovolume. In the field, we measure the physical and chemical parameter by tube, supplemented with water analyzes of chlorophyll concentrations and nitrogen and phosphorus series. (AU)
