Abstract

This project inquires for the contributions that the studies of ethics brought to the Michel Foucault's thought, principally to think over the figure of "subject of right" and the image of a "new right". For that will be important to underline two issues. First off all read the works of Foucault within a philosophical tradition that criticizes the abstract human rights and highlights the relationship among power, law and violence. Secondly, based on his recently published courses, understand the meaning that the freedom has in his later studies, which is very different from that propagate by the economic liberalism and defended by the theory of contract. The research therefore aims to understand Foucault's work on ethics not only for his ability to criticize the traditional concepts, but also the possibility to create new problems, such as proposals to invent a new right and construct ethical and libertarian ways of life nowadays.
