Abstract

Longitudinal, prospective study that aims to evaluate the impact of a specialized service to early stimulation of children identified at risk for the development from the perspective of health professionals and mothers. A total of 37 subjects, 30 mothers and seven health professionals will participate in the study. Data will be collected through semi structured interviews with mothers in the first visit of the child to specialized service, and in the intervals between each visit, until a child is 12 months of life. In these intervals, the interview will be conducted by telephone contact with the mother to collect data on child health in the period; facilities and difficulties experienced by the mother to perform the stimulation of development at home; her perception about the child's development and the contribution of specialized service for her child health. Health professionals will fill the questionnaire after each child visit, with evaluation of the development of each child. Closed responses obtained from questionnaires will be analyzed using the microcomputer program Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 16.0 and the results will be presented in absolute and relative frequency. The open-ended responses will be grouped by similarity to respond to the study objectives. They will be discussed based on current evidence for care of the child at risk. Whereas a satisfactory child development has a positive impact in shaping the individual and recognizing the mother's participation in child care at home, this study intends to contribute to the identification of the impact of actions aimed at stimulating the development of the child.
