Abstract

In this project we will investigate the magnetic properties of ZnO nanoparticles doped with cobalt. During the project the student should acquire theoretical knowledge about diluted magnetic oxide semiconductors, their band structure and the formalism used to describe their magnetic properties. Then he must learn to use the techniques used to measure magnetization, mainly using a SQUID (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) magnetometer and a force magnetometer coupled to a dilution refrigerator. Finally it will use the knowledge acquired to investigate the magnetic properties of ZnO nanoparticles.
