Effectiveness and clinical parameters evaluation of bleaching treatment with 10% hydrogen peroxide dispensed in individual or pre-loaded trays

Abstract

This work aims to evaluate the clinical efficiency, tooth sensitivity, presence of gingival irritation, acceptability and comfort of bleaching techniques with hydrogen peroxide in individual or preloaded trays. Fifty participants will be selected after conducting anamnesis and clinical examinations and according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The initial color of the teeth of participants will be determined using a spectrophotometer (VITA Easyshade ® Advance, Vita, Germany), according to the Vita Classical shade, to separate them into two groups to perform the bleaching treatment: a) 10% hydrogen peroxide prescribed in preloaded trays (Opalescence Trés White Supreme 10 % Mint/ Ultradent); b) 9.5% hydrogen peroxide prescribed in individualized trays (Pola Day/ SDI). Participants will perform bleaching for 30 minutes daily for 14 days in accordance to the instructions previously provided. In the days 7 and 14 days of the beginning of bleaching the color of the participants' teeth will be reassessed with spectrophotometer (Vita Classical and CIE Lab system). Also, the clinical parameters of sensitivity, degree of acceptability of the bleaching technique and comfort level of the tray used will be assessed by means of visual analogue scales. For assessing the gingival irritation, absence or presence of localized or generalized gingivitis will be evaluated. Appropriate statistical tests will be applied according to the type of variable used. (AU)
