Abstract

The aim of this study is to perform a clinical evaluation regarding tooth sensitivity, presence of gingival irritation, degree of technique acceptability, patient's perception of color change and the human enamel calcium content before, during and after dental bleaching using at-home, in-office and combined bleaching techniques. Seventy-five participants will be selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria after an anamnesis and clinical examination, and divided into three groups: a) pre-loaded trays using 10% hydrogen peroxide during 15 days of continuous use; b) in-office bleaching with 40% hydrogen peroxide in three clinical sessions distributed in 15 days; c) combined technique: initial session with the 40% hydrogen peroxide and 10% hydrogen peroxide pre-loaded trays 15 days of continuous use. The bleaching clinical parameters and calcium and phosphorus concentrations evaluations will be done in five times: T1) baseline; T2) 24 hours after the first bleaching treatment; T3) after 8 days from the beginning of treatment; T4) 15 days after the beginning treatment (coinciding with the end of bleaching treatment); T5) 14 days after the bleaching treatment. The dental color will be evaluated with a spectrophotometer (Vita scale Classical and CIE Lab system), and the sensitivity parameters, the acceptability's degree of the bleaching technique and patient's perception of color change will be evaluated by visual analog scales. For the gingival irritation, it will be evaluated the absence or presence and if it’s localized or generalized. For the mineral content evaluation, the enamel microbiopsy technique will be performed by analyzing the concentrations through colorimetric analysis in a spectrophotometer. Appropriate statistical tests will be applied according to the type of variable, with a significance level of 5%. (AU)
