Abstract

The genera Antrodiella, Flaviporus, Junghuhnia and Tyromyces are white-rot wood decomposing fungi that comprehend species with small smooth and hyaline basidiospores, mono-dimitic hyphal system. Even if traditionally morphological characteristics have been used to separate and define each of them, recent works shows that they are polyphyletic and those characteristics do not provide a sufficient delimitation of each of them. Moreover, some of the characteristics commonly used to separate genera, as the hyphal system, seem not to fit the segregation into monomitic, dimitic and trimitic types, since many species present intermediary forms of those. The use of phylogenetic analyses has been intensified and new molecular markers, with different evolutionary rates, have been developed to provide deeper information on the phylogenetic relationship and give better resolution to the clades at the various hierarchical levels. The aim of this research project named "Phylogenetic Studies of the Genera Antrodiella, Flaviporus, Junghuhnia and Tyromyces" is to improve the knowledge on the phylogenetic relationships among the genera based on single or multilocus DNA sequence analyses. All obtained sequences, as well as all the morphological and biological information, will be provided by the project. The abroad internship will be carried out in Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology of the Mendel University, Brno, Czech Republic, with supervision of the researcher Dr. Michal Tomsovsky. The internship will consist of all molecular analysis steps, from DNA extraction to computational practices and phylogenetic trees interpretation. (AU)
