Abstract

Nasometry provides quantitative data regarding speech nasality and can be used to confirm auditory-perceptual findings. Normative nasalance values for brazilian children have been described for high pressure oral sentences. Differences in nasalance values between oral passages with different extensions have not been investigated in this population. Oral passages with short extension may favor to obtain nasalance scores in preschoolers or children not collaborative. The goal of this study is to determine normative nasametric values for different stimuli: two oral passages (one with large and one with short extention). It also aims to determine whether nasalance values differ significantly between these two speech stimuli. Nasalance measures will be obtained simultaneously with the audio recording of the speech produced by 30 children with typical speech. The speech stimuli include two oral passages. Speech samples will be obtained by asking the child to repeat the stimuli. The audio signal will be captured simultaneously with nasalance measures (Nasometer 6400) and the recordings will be used to confirm typical speech, if necessary. The nasalance values of nasalance will be statistically analyzed in order to compare findings between the two stimuli.
