The important component of aquatic ecosystems, the macrophytes increase the structure and the divertsity of the habitats, they interfere in the cycling of the nutrient and participate of the food webs. Based on these environmental functions, the macrophytes can be important tools to the treatments of the effluents in aquaculture, and then the macrophythes can be used in the constructed wetland. The aims of this project are to assess the time required to exchange the macrophyte Eichhornia crassipes and the limnological aspects of inlet water and the water outlet from a wetland to treat a aquaculture effluent. Furthermore, we intend to investigate the fluctuation of the community associated to E. crassipes during period of 10 months and to analyse the retention of nutrients in the sediment effluent from wetland. Thus, the wetland will be implemented in a channel that receives the effluent from tanks and ponds of the Aquaculture Center Unesp-Jaboticabal/SP. Biomass, growth, N and P contents and organic matter of macrophyte will be carried out. Limnological aspects such as sediment, water, climatological variables and hydraulic load will be evaluated too. These results will be possible to assess whether the proposed treatment was effective in matching the quality of the effluent water for reuse in aquaculture.
