Abstract

In order to increase the Brazilian competitiveness in international beef trade, molecular genetic studies have been focused on quality traits such as meat tenderness. The knowledge of the genetic contribution in the total variation of the traits can help in early prediction of the animal genetics potential and this, together with the classical tools for genetic breeding, can maximize the response to selection process. Although, to define the real contribution of DNA sequence differences in phenotypic diversity is necessary to understand the mechanisms that regulate gene expression, considering that this variation may also result in phenotypic variation between individuals. To identify one possible mechanisms that are affecting gene expression variation, the present project aims to build a bovine transcription factor (TF) repertoire to, afterwards, identify those related genes expressed in Nelore muscle tissue. This study will contribute for the main project and for further investigations since TF are important regulators of gene expression, controlling many biological processes and no previous bovine TF repertoire was described until this moment.
