Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate the effects of ethanol application in the long-term bond strength of a self-etching adhesive system to rigid and caries-affected dentin. Forty human third molars will be used. Medium occlusal dentin will be exposed and 20 of the 40 teeth will be subjected to procedures for obtaining caries affected dentin. Then the teeth will be restored with an adhesive system according to the manufacturer's recommendation (control) or associated with ethanol before applying primer (n = 10) and composite resin. Microtensile specimens will be obtained and submitted to microtensile test immediately or after storage in distilled water for 180 days. If the data presented and comply with the assumptions of analysis of variance they shall be submitted to three-way ANOVA and if there is a need for multiple comparisons between groups, the Tukey test will be used, the limit of significance will be established will be set at 5 %.
