Abstract

After deregulation of the coffee market, since the 1990s, and the subsequent international coffee crisis, many Brasilian coffee growers have sought to insert in the specialty coffee market as a way to add value to their products. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to analyze the spatial productive circuit and circles of cooperation in the production of specialty coffee in Brazil, mainly fair trade, organic and gourmet. For this, we analyze three relevant geographic situation located in the South of Minas Gerais: Cooperativa dos Produtores de Café Especial de Boa Esperança, Cooperativa dos Agricultores Familiares de Poço Fundo e a Associação dos Produtores de Café da Mantiqueira. It aims to examine if the insertion in the spatial productive circuit these three types of specialty coffees provide greater autonomy and identity for smallholders, iders compared with the production of commodity coffee. In general, we seek to understand whether the production of specialty coffees or not as a kind of anticommodity. (AU)
