Abstract

The valley of the Rio do Cabuçu is an urban area of the São Paulo municipality where the environmental contamination is a problem serious. Aware of the impact of this contamination on their quality of life, the associations of neighbourhood, represented for by "Agenda 21 - Vale do Rio Cabuçu", searched the School of Medicine of São Paulo University for orientation about the possible actions for investigation of effects and minimization of this contamination. Thus was established project to investigate the effects of atmospheric contamination on the health of habitants in Vale do Rio Cabuçu region (project Regular FAPESP nº 2013/21817-5). The regular FAPESP project was designed with aim to improve the engagement of the local population with the environmental issues and to promote environmental education. In the current project we propose the construction of maps to show the spatial distribution of the concentrations of nitrogen dioxide, ozone, Iron, Zinc, Sulphur, Copper and index of the micronuclei in Trandescatia pallida, obtained with the assessment made in the Vale do Rio Cabuçu, São Paulo. The spatial distribution maps of the results allows for easy identification of different degrees of environmental contamination which will facilitate the transmission of results to the population that will be able to recognize within the problematic.
