Abstract

The cervix cancer is still one of the most common cancers in women worldwide. Among the different forms in which this tumor may present, there is the microinvasive form of squamous cell carcinoma, which has been increasingly diagnosed. Diagnosis and treatment of microinvasive cancer is subject to constant debate, especially in defining the screening, colposcopic criteria, histopathological definition and more conservative managements. The aim of this study is to identify the factors that had led to the initial diagnosis of cervix cancer Ia1 stadium, microinvasive, with attention to the reason for seeking medical care, which method used to perfom the diagnosis, and also assess the evolution of the number of diagnoses of microinvasion in attended in the Women's Hospital - CAISM the reference for the region of Campinas, in the period from 1992 to 2011and to compare with CIN3 and invasive cancer. A retrospective descriptive study, with information taken from medical records of the Hospital, and with the annually frequency of microinvase cervix cancer calculated by age and to compare with diagnoses of CIN3 and invasive cancer. The association of microinvasion with sexual and reproductive variables and symptoms or way of the initial suspicion of the cervix microinvasive cancer is also evaluated using Fisher Tests or Chi-square, Mann-Whitney test, with p<0.05 for statistical significance. With the results, it is expected that it is possible to describe an overview about the evolution and current situation of the cervix microinvasive cancer diagnosed in the Women's Hospital - CAISM and also show which factors are associated with the diagnosis of microinvasion.
