Abstract

Patients seropositive for HIV on antiretroviral therapy high (HAART) may exhibit changes in body composition and metabolic termed lipodystrophy syndrome. These changes represent an atherogenic profile, increasing the risk for developing cardiovascular disease. Therefore, it is of great importance to identify early risk for developing these diseases through practical, accessible, accurate and reliable methods of assessment used in clinical practice. Objectives: To evaluate the prevalence of peripheral atherosclerotic disease by ankle brachial index (ABI); evaluate the anthropometric profile; anthropometric measures correlate with ABI. Methods: 260 HIV positive patients will be evaluated for HIV on ART. For identification of peripheral atheromatous disease of the examination will be held ITB. Measures circumferences (waist, hip, thigh, calf, neck, trunk), skinfolds (biceps, triceps, subscapular, suprailiac) will be measured. The variables are described as mean, standard deviation, median, quartiles, minimum and maximum. The correlations between the variables will be admitted by the coefficients of determination of Pearson and Spearman, depending on the distribution of each variable.
