Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the dendritic cell (DC) repopulation during wound healing on oral mucosa in individuals under chronic ingestion of ethanol. Some studies have demonstrated that acute ingestion of ethanol leads to inhibition of differentiation and migration of DC on skin, but in oral mucosa this effect was not described. In the present study we will verify if the chronic ingestion of ethanol affects the repopulation of DCs during wound healing on oral mucosa. Immunohistochemical tests will be performed using DC markers (CD83, CD11c, CD11a, and vimentin) in histological sections of wounds at experimental time periods of 24 hours, 3 days, 7 days, and 9 days after wound induction in rats. Positive cells for these markers will be counted for each experimental time period and regarding with local site (near or distant from epithelium). We expect that this study will improve the knowledge about DC in oral wounds, as well as about the effects of ethanol on DC repopulation.
