Abstract

The Medical-Hospital Complex current conformation in the city of São Paulo arise from historical decisions made in the scope of Brazilian healthcare and in the scientific and technical developments of modern medicine itself, globally speaking. Currently, Sao Paulo's hospitals and medical schools, especially the Clínicas Hospital of the University of São Paulo and São Paulo Hospital of the Federal University of São Paulo, both express high complexity and enroll scientific and technical research, constitute forward-central elements in the Brazilian healthcare industrial complex (GADELHA, 2003, 2006) as well as for the development of the spatial circuits of producion (SANTOS, SILVEIRA, 2001; SANTOS, 1985, 1988) being able to promote space refunctionalization (ANTAS Jr., 2011b) and the restructuring of the city (SPOSITO, 2004).
