Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the re-mineralization potential of an experimental multi-mode adhesive system containing biomimetic analogs and bioactive calcium phosphates. The experimental multi-mode adhesive system will consist in a primer (15 wt % GDMA-P; 10 wt % HEMA, 15 wt % TEG-DMA, 10 wt % UDMA, 10 wt % water and 40 wt % ethanol); and an hydrophobic bond (40 wt % UDMA, 37 wt % BisEMA, 10 wt % TEGDMA, 10 wt % GDMA-P and 3 wt % photo-initiator system). The bio-mimetic analogs (5 wt % polyacrylic acid and 10 wt % polyvinylphosphonic acid) and the bioactive phosphates (ß tricalcium phosphate and the monocalcium phosphate monohydrate) will be tested in the primer and hydrophobic bond, respectively, in which, the bioactive phosphates will consist in 20 wt % of the final blend. 46 teeth will be used to analyze the re-mineralization potential of the experimental multi-mode adhesive system by ATR/FT-IR, nanomechanical properties and TEM using the Gandolfi's technique, in which, experimental multi-mode adhesive discs will be placed on both sides of collagen discs and held together with rubber bands. 60 human third molars will be used to evaluate the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) in an OM100 machine, using a testing jig (Geraldeli's) and nanoleakage using the silver nitrate method in SEM. To assess the degree of conversion, a ATR/FT-IR will be used to measure the non-polymerized and post-polymerized blends. Data will be submitted to proper statistical analyses according to each test.
