Abstract

This doctoral research, in course, seeks to investigate aspects of the subject of the recent transformations in space-time in the globalized world, especially with regard to the discussion about deterritorialization/reterritorialization of culture and the possible conflicts that can arise from that within a touristic arena. What is presented here is a proposal for work to be undertaken during a stay of eight months in the Indiana University in the United States (USA). The internship aims to fulfill a scientific exchange. In more detail, the aim of this PhD study is to understand the exchanges, conflicts and resistances in tourism in the Amazon (Manaus region, in the Tupé Reserve). This object of study also highlights the need for discussion and update of theories, methodologies and concepts around the theme of riverine populations in the Amazon, their ways of life and livelihood, their social and economic identities within regional and global levels of analysis. Besides the national literature about it, these aspects have also been considered by the U.S. literature, especially in the Ostrom Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis and the Anthropological Center for Training and Research on Global Environmental Change (ACT), Indiana University, located in Bloomington. Thus, the main objective of this internship abroad is the refinement of theoretical and methodological corpus of the thesis in progress. (AU)
