Abstract

In this project is proposed the study of structural and spectroscopic properties of pure tungsten trioxide and Eu3+-doped tungsten trioxide. Samples will be prepared by thermal treatment of WO3 (WO3:Eu3+) and H2WO4 precursors precipitate directly from basic sodium tungstate (Na2WO4) and/or ammonium tungstate, (NH4)2WO4, solutions or by the hydrothermal method using oxidizing (air), inert (argon), and reducing (H2/N2) dynamic atmospheres. It is proposed the correlation between the preparation conditions and structural properties and with luminescent properties using either UV or X-ray excitation. Besides that is proposed a first investigation of the scintillation properties of WO3 and WO3:Eu3+ and the use of X-ray excited optical luminescence (XEOL) as an analytical tool for materials characterization.
