Abstract

This research project is focused on the search for knowledge that may help improve the researcher's thesis and qualifications, including the enhancement of the methodology and theoretical framework of her thesis attached to this project, by means of a six-month internship period at Laboratory on International Law and Regulation (ILAR) at the University of California San Diego's School of International Relations & Pacific Studies. ILAR is an internationally recognized center for its academic excellence, particularly in research on energy and climate change policy. Due to the limited experience regarding this question, in Brazil there is a gap in terms of knowledge that analysis how public policies and the government are driving eco-innovation projects in the corporate sector. Therefore, the intention during the internship is to develop a comparative study regarding the formulation and implementation of public policies that promote the development of eco-innovation projects in companies, taking into account the State of California (in the US) and the State of Sao Paulo (in Brazil). The expectation is that by means of this international internship I can obtain relevant information which enables a better understanding of different public policy instruments and, in this way, be able to contribute with proposals for the improvement of public policy formulation and implementation practices in Brazil, so as to create an efficient environment for stimulating a low carbon economy. The case study method will be used, and data collection techniques will be based on desk research and in-depth interviews with specialists including, as far as it is possible, scholars, practitioners and government officers.
