Abstract

Lipids are essential biomolecules for the maintenance of human body and health, especially the omega-three family of fatty acids, which is quite related with the prevention of illnesses currently studied. There are some animals extremely rich in these biomolecules, for example, fish, with abundant polyunsaturated lipids, found mostly in liver, due to specific and important liver metabolic function. The amount of liver lipids differs among each fish species due their different habits in alimentation. This project aims lipidomics analysis of two Amazonian fish species: Tucunaré and Matrinxã, in times of flood and dry of the river Amazon. It is expected to find differences in lipid composition between these two species, mainly due to their different habits in alimentation. Also, due to the influx of food during the flood season we can expect that the quantity and contents of lipids change within the same species. Although advances in techniques for determination of lipids made a great breakthrough, their analyses remain challenging due to the lipids complexity and specificity. Herein, lipidomics will be performed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. And, it is expected that NMR can enable lipid structural characterization and a better understanding of the alimentation habits of the two investigated species, being these biomolecules extremely important contributors to human health, as well as, to contribute to a scientific knowledge regarding lipidomics.
