Abstract

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are molecules with less than 100 amino acid residues, which play an important role in the immune response system of several living beings. Due to acquired resistance by various organisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites to the forms of treatment used nowadays, the importance of searching new compounds able to eradicate them is increasing. The AMPs began to be studied recently as an option for such treatments, and they are becoming one of the most important mean of combat to the diseases caused by the organisms. This project proposes a combinatorial synthesis of antimicrobial peptides aiming to synthesize highly activity analogs that present no significant hemolytic activity. The analogs will be synthesized by the solid phase method, purified High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and characterized by Mass Spectrometry (LC/ESI-MS). The biological tests to verify the antimicrobial activity of these compounds will be performed in strains several micro -organisms. Conformational studies will be conducted by Circular dichroism (CD) and probably by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). (AU)
