Abstract

The development of an appropriate immune response is very important for the maintenance of homeostasis, a series of processes are triggered from the first contact with pathogenic microorganisms to the effectiveness of the immune memory response. For these processes occur properly, nutrients are necessary, including glutamine that plays roles as a substrate for energy supply, and nitrogen supply to genetic material formation. Dietary restriction has been studied as a potential beneficial in the treatment of cancer and increased longevity of some of animals species. Given the importance of glutamine as a nutrient and the potential of dietary restriction to modulate the immune response, we propose in this project evaluate the production of cytokines (IL-1, IL-12, IL-8, IL-10 and TNF-alpha), as well as the expression of NFKB, c-Rel, B7 and CD28 on macrophages and lymphocytes in vitro, supplemented with different concentrations of glutamine, from mice submitted with dietary restriction.
