Abstract

Rocio virus (ROCV) was the causative agent of an outbreak of encephalitis occurred in the Ribeira Valley region, Sao Paulo State, Brazil, in 1975, which was described as a new virus of the genus Flavivirus, family Flaviviridea. To study the mechanisms of neurovirulence and neuroinvasiveness of ROCV, the construction of infectious cDNA clone of ROCV and identification of molecular determinants in the E glycoprotein for viral infectivity will be performed. This construction will be done in collaboration with Professor Alexander Khromykh's RNA Virology Laboratory at the University of Queensland, Australia, who has extensive experience in the construction and production of infectious clones of flaviviruses.
