Abstract

Enhancers are regions in the genome known as cis regulatory elements. They play a central role guiding gene expression that generates cell specificity, being able to activate transcription of its target genes over long distances. Both chromatin condensation and DNA methylation are capable of inhibiting the activity of enhancers. The postdoctoral scholarship in the country is intended to study the interactions of chromatin, specifically the regulatory regions with enhancer activity in the SOCS1 gene locus. Currently, the study of regulatory regions in the genome has been the subject of much research in the field in order to understand the control of gene expression programs in different cell types and at different times. It is known that diseases, such as cancer, may have they epigenetic control disrupted by changes in the regulatory regions of the genome which makes the study of the mechanisms that control these regions a crucial matter. At the moment, some studies have suggested DNA methylation to play an important role in the control of these regulatory regions. The proposal for research internship abroad intend to complement the current project in the country through the training in different techniques to investigate the mechanisms that may be involved in the establishment of DNA methylation changes in the cells using models of induction of DNA methylation with the aim of investigating the control of regulatory regions in the SOCS1 gene locus.
