Abstract

Genetic polymorphisms are variations in DNA sequence that affect more than 1% of the world population (MATOS, 2005). Polymorphisms in angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) genes and alpha-actinin protein 3 (ACTN3) can explain, at least in part, why some people have more benefits than others performing the same exercise training. Studies in that area are interesting because in the future it will be possible to prescribe training according to genetic characteristics of each person. Objective: Measure the effect of I/D and R/X ACTN3 polymorphisms in response variability to a multicomponent exercise training in strength, power strength, aerobic capacity, flexibility and agility in women aged 50-70 years. Methods: Women will be invited to participate in the study and will be shared in groups according to each genotype (ECA II, ID, DD and ACTN3 XX, RR/RX). It will be carry out a pilot sample with n=10 for each group in order to evaluate the data variability of the results, allowing to calculate the sample size (SINGER and ANDRADE, 2000). It will be applied the Rikli and Jones and AAHPERD tests to measure physical capacities before and after training. The multicomponent training will last for 12 weeks, twice a week, 90 min each session. For data analysis it will be used Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Levene and Anova tests - when necessary, the Tukey post hoc will be performed.
