The aim of this project is pursue studies using of a new generation of compact gas cells, i.e., so-called substrate-integrated hollow waveguides (iHWGs) that are uniquely available at the Institute of Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, University of Ulm, Germany combined with a compact Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer for advanced gas sensing of H2S and O3. The detection is based on (i) the immediate UV-assisted conversion of the rather weak IR-absorber H2S into much more pronounced and distinctively responding SO2 and (ii) direct measurements of peak area located at 1055 cm-1 associated with O3 asymmetric stretching vibration. We anticipate herein further studies concerning the improvement of the sensitivity using pre concentration techniques and miniaturization of the already compact dimensions using tunable quantum cascade laser (QCL) technology. In addition, it will be tested whether both gases may be simultaneously detected. Finally, the sensor platform will be validated against real-world samples. (AU)
