Abstract

The main goal of this project is to verify through brain imaging if there is a significant difference in brain activity when using the method 5S to organize the hospital environment. We will recruit 20 participants, that will be invited to a 5 minutes test and simultaneously submitted to the Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (FMRI). During this exam, images of hospital instruments will be presented, asking participants to locate specific instruments, using the steps of 5S and the concept of security, considered by some authors as the Sixth S (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardise, Sustain, Safety). The images will be presented as two sets in order to produce all the data in duplicate. The FMRI will be performed using Philips Achieva 3T equipment and the paradigm of activation in blocks through two different interspersed states: rest and mental search of elements in the images (1 to 5). We will use SPM8 to analyse FMRI images. We hope to verify neurobiological correspondents for different levels of the organization using the 5S technique described in the lean healthcare management system. (AU)
