This study is devoted to analytical methods development for metals determination in alloys and steel. Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) in combination with chemometric techniques will be used and several samples tested: steel, copper, nickel, titanium, among others. The analytes that will be determined are Al, Cu, Cr, Fe, Mo, Ni, Ti and toxic elements like Cd and Pb. In the data treatment, three strategies will be considered: (1) univariate calibration using signal intensity and area; (2) Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) with some selected emission lines and (3) Partial Least Squares (PLS) using total peak profile. In addition, the strategy of signal intensity summation and internal standard will be tested. As a result the proposed project is intended to offer new possibilities for LIBS application and human resources able to work with modern techniques. (AU)
