Abstract

This research aims to study the concept of sequencing in the theoretical and artistic production of the photographer, curator and educator, Nathan Lyons, and the photobook production of the Visual Studies Workshop Press. As a theorist of twentieth century photography, Nathan Lyons played an important role in the expansion of the photographic field. In 1969, he founded the Visual Studies Workshop, an interdisciplinary educational institution focusing on image research and production. According to Lyons, the potential of images is realized not when they are considered as isolated objects, but rather when they are inserted within their different contexts and expressed through sequential narrative structures.
