Abstract

Community gardens in urban centers has fostered multiple environmental, social and health benefits. In contrast, few studies investigated the contamination of vegetables by the absorption of trace metals derived from atmospheric deposition resulting from the intensive use of vehicles. This study aims to quantify the concentration of metals absorbed in the species Brassica oleracea L (cabbage) and Spinacia oleracea (spinach) cultivated in eleven community urban gardens distributed in different regions of São Paulo city, using analytical methods as NAA and ICP-MS as well as the influence of characteristics of the urban environment adjacent to plantations. The mapping of the obtained data will be performed using geostatistical modeling. (AU)
