Abstract Introduction:: Cochlear implant (CI) can provide a positive impact on quality of life, considering that other areas of health as physical, psychological and social can be accessed. In this scenario, assessment of quality of life is an important information of the impact and effectiveness of treatment, in order to complement the results obtained by clinical measures and to evaluate the impact of hearing loss and the use of CI in different dimensions. Objective: To translate and culturally adapt to Brazilian Portuguese the Nijmegen Cochlear Implantation Questionnaire (NCIQ)Methodology: Translation and cultural adaptation of NCIQ to Brazilian Portuguese. After the analysis of agreement and implementation of any changes in the translation of the questionnaire, a pilot study will be conducted in a group of 20 adults with CI of both genders. The translated and adapted version of the NCIQ questionnaire will be sent via electronic media and/or mail. The research will be conducted over the course of 12 months at the Department of Physiotherapy, Communication Science & Disorders, Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo. Contributions of the study: This research will enable the translation and cultural adaptation to Brazilian Portuguese of an instrument to evaluate the quality of life in adults with CI, making available to professionals, an important clinical tool in the investigation of the results of this type of intervention of daily living. From the results obtained with the NCIQ questionnaire, we intend to evaluate the benefits of CI considering not only the development of auditory and language skills, but also social, physical and psychological aspects that integrate the domains related to quality of life.
