Abstract Introduction: The tooth loss are still a tort to oral health of adults, is therefore a matter of great importance in dentistry. Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the incidence of tooth loss and associated factors in a Brazilian population. Methods: This longitudinal study's will be carried out in Piracicaba, located in São Paulo State, Brazil. The data collection will be conducted in households in the city that were selected by probability sampling at baseline by Batista (2013). The clinical evaluation will be conducted through epidemiological examination gazing: Dental caries experience, which will subsidize the application of two indices of tooth loss: tooth mortality index and modified tooth mortality index, and treatment needs and periodontal status (WHO). The associated factors will be studied through the structured questionnaire, previously validated, that includes questions on sociodemographic and socioeconomic factors, factors related to general and oral health, self-perceived health and use of dental services. The denouement will be the incidence of tooth loss to be analyzed as a discrete variable and classes being other factors the independent variables. For the analyzes will be used regression models thought the software SPSS. Expected Results: Based on the datas, be able to verify the impact of tooth loss in the population studied and may be associated with other related factors, such as socioeconomic levels, the use of dental services and the impact of self-perceived quality of life.
