Abstract

Objective: The objectives of this study will be to investigate the 1) effects of modification of the dentin matrix by TiF4 on dentin stability and 2) the biomechanical properties of dentin-self-etching adhesive interfaces on the nano-mechanical properties of the adhesive layer, hybrid layer and underlying dentin after long-term storage (up to 6 months). Methods: For first purpose, 15 extracted sound human third molars will be used. Teeth will be ground flat, sectioned into disks in the mesio-distal direction and trimmed to a final rectangular shaped beam. A total of 40 beams will be prepared according to TiF4 application times and storage times. Stability will be assessed immediately, 3 and 6 months following treatment. After, elastic modulus assessment will be performed. For second purpose, 12 extracted sound human third molars will be used. The occlusal surfaces will be ground flat to remove enamel and expose dentin surface. The teeth will be randomly divided into four groups (n=3) according to the restorative procedure. All the samples will be sectioned into 2 beams, and then evaluated at 24 hours, 3 months and 6 months storage. The hardness of dentin, hybrid layer and adhesive layer will be measured using a customized Triboindenter. For Statistical analysis a parametric analysis will be performed. If this procedure is not possible, a non-parametric analysis will be used. (AU)
