Associated to the scholarship: | 14/16361-5 - The Roman aesthetics: Goethe and Moritz in Italy, BP.DD |
Abstract Goethe's stay in Italy about the years 1786-1788, the encounter with his compatriot Moritz and the exchange of opinions about the nature of beauty and of the works of art, which occurred from the direct contact with the Italian masterpieces, the critical reflexions about the esthetical theories of that period, and the synthesis with themes from other environments (in particular, from botany and comparative anatomy), give a decisive contribution to the elaboration in a few years of a new and original esthetical theory. The ideas of autonomy of the beauty, of purpose in itself and of morphogenesis of forms are framed in a general effort to think - in the arts as well as in life - the essence of creation, a "morphological thought" which insists on the intrinsic building power of structures and forms.
