Abstract

The eutrophication of aquatic environments and consequently the increase of algal blooms and cyanobacteria are now considered as a serious environmental problem and to human health worldwide. In this contest the chemical compounds of plant origin have potential to be used as an ecologically viable alternative in pest control turning into a great ally in agriculture and more currently in control of harmful microorganisms to human and animal health. Considering the above the present work has the objective is to evaluate the potential of the extracts, fractions and compounds isolated Tridax procumbens L. and Hordeum vulgare L. (barley) on the growth of cells of Microcystis aeruginosa (Kützing) Kützing. under laboratory conditions, as well as assess and quantify total phenols and flavonoids and fitoquimicamente elucidate the allelochemicals components. It is still aim this evaluate the oxidizing potential of the extracts and isolates allelochemicals for treating water contaminated with cianotoxins (microcystin and Cylindrospermopsin) and finally evaluating of the ecotoxicological activity of treated water.
