Outline of the risks associated to the contamination by failure in continuity solution in surgical gloves used in small animals orthopeadic surgery

Abstract

Despite the appropriate use of surgical techniques and protocols with the objective of inhibiting factors related to the risk of perforation of surgical gloves, and these occur, most often without the knowledge of health professionals. There is a lack of information and research in the field of Veterinary Medicine of the risk of perforation of surgical gloves and their effects, thus the experiment data seek to develop and implement methods of control and prevention of surgical infections . The methods that will be the leak test or "test the water" (standard NF EN 455-1). The gloves of 50 orthopedic surgical procedures will be collected in individual plastic bags and labeled all gloves of the surgical team, and will also be completed questionnaire containing all the data of surgery performed. Subsequently surgical gloves collected at the end of surgery, will be attached to a PVC tube and subjected to filling with 1 L of water, and after two to three minutes will wait up to check for perforation or not by identifying the leak water. As a control and for validation of the test will be chosen 40 new surgical gloves, where 20 suffered 3 punctures with intentional hypodermic needle 25x 7, and the other 20 did not suffer injury by a person who is not the principal investigator. Later the researcher will conduct the tets blindly and compare the results.
