Abstract

The research problem presented in this project is associated to the topic "equity in the access to higher education in Brazil". Its main aim is to analyze programs that provide to freshmen in college courses with high emphasis on mathematics, who access using affirmative actions, conditions for continuing in the institution, focusing on pedagogical aspects of such actions. Furthermore, the aim is to analyze, in particular, possible actions of Mathematics Education in this context. The question guiding the research is: What pedagogical aspects, related with Mathematics Education, have expressed support for continuity and progression of students entering in Higher Education which are benefited from affirmative actions? The data will be constituted of official documents and information gathered with two Brazilian Universities related to strategies and programs that contribute to the continuity of such students in hard science courses. In addition, will be held semi-structured interviews with teachers, students and administrators involved in these programs. The analysis will try to identify new possibilities for social inclusion of underrepresented groups at the university level. It is important to approach this issue at a time when many doubts about the effectiveness of affirmative action policies in higher education come to the fore. (AU)
