Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate via photometric, histologic, histometric, histomicrobiologic and imunohistoquimic analyzes the influence of adjuvant therapy with green tea extract on the mechanical treatment of experimental periodontitis induced in rats. 140 rats (Rattus norvegicus Albinus, Wistar rats), which are randomly distributed in 4 experimental groups will be used: SPE Group (or sham) (n = 40): induction of experimental periodontitis in the lower right first molar and left, only the simulation of the act of induction. After periods of 07, 14, 22 and 37 days after the simulation of induction of periodontal disease the animals are euthanized. PE group (n = 40): induction of experimental periodontitis in the lower right first molar and left. After periods of 07, 14, 22 and 37 days after induction of experimental periodontitis animals will be euthanized. PE-RAR-SS group (n = 30): induction of experimental periodontitis in the lower right first molar and left. After 7 days of induction of experimental periodontitis, these animals should be subjected to scaling and root planing followed by subgingival irrigation with 1 ml of saline solution (0.9%). After periods of 14, 22 and 37 days after induction of experimental periodontitis animals will be euthanized. PE-RAR-CH (n = 30), induction of experimental periodontitis in the right and left lower first molar. After 7 days of induction of experimental periodontitis, these will be submitted to scaling and root planing followed by subgingival irrigation (1 ml) with a solution of green tea extract (20 mg/ml). After periods of 14, 22 and 37 days after induction of experimental periodontitis animals will be euthanized. The mandibles collected will be processed and analyzed using the following methods: photometric, histologic, histometric, histomicrobiologic and imunohistoquimic. The data will be analyzed statistically (p <0.05) in specialized computer program (BioStat 5.0).
