Analysis of risk factors for the occurrence of lumbar pain in recreational athletes of soccer

Abstract

Introduction: In athletes we observe a high incidence of low back pain, often associated with the occurrence of repetitive loads of low magnitude or unique impacts of high magnitude more frequently than active non-athletes. In this sense, the type of sport and the frequency of practice may be decisive for the development of low back pain. Studies to identify the changes in muscular strength and muscular endurance of trunk extensor muscles, which are clinical signs related to dysfunction generated by nonspecific low back pain as well as the patterns of muscle recruitment of the trunk stabilizers can contribute to the development of programs training and rehabilitation of soccer with nonspecific low back pain. Objective: This study aimed to compare muscle strength and muscular endurance and anticipatory instability of recreational soccer players with and without low back pain responses. Methods: Participants of this study, recreational soccer players aged between 35 and 60 years with or without nonspecific low back pain. The protocol for data collection will be held in two days, being held to collect the personal information of the individual, anthropometry and filling out an evaluation form on the first day. On the second day collections at familiarizing volunteers with the Maximum Voluntary Isometric Contraction (MVIC) test will be performed, the Biering-Sorensen test, the test of Abdominal Flexion in a minute and the test of postural disturbance. Three MVIC will be carried out every five seconds in extension and flexion of the trunk with an interval of 30 seconds between each contraction. The Biering Sorensen test will be performed to evaluate the fatigue strength of the extensor muscles of the trunk, where the assessed after remaining suspended on the stretcher will hold the maximum amplitude of trunk extension, holding that position for the longest period of time possible. In the abdominal flexion test used to evaluate the strength of the abdominal muscles fatigue in this test, the volunteer should realize maximum repetitions of abdominal exercises in a minute. In postural instability test the volunteer should kick a ball that is thrown without warning from a fixed distance of 6 m diagonally. This test will evaluate the time to onset of muscular stabilizing muscles of the trunk in relation to the effector muscle of the gesture of the kick. The EMG signals will be collected on the internal oblique muscles (HI), multifidus (MU) and rectus femoris (RF) during testing of MVIC and Kicking the Ball. The EMG onset time is determined from the change of two standard deviations from the value of activation at rest and the difference between the time of onset of HI and RF and RF and MU will be calculated. The data obtained during the tests will be compared between groups using appropriate statistical tests. Thus, the Shapiro-Wilk test to verify the normality of the data, and adopted the significance value of p <0:05 is applied.
