Abstract

B chromosomes in A. latifasciata have been studied with a focus on cytogenetic. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies can be used as a means for in-depth genomic analysis. Despite the sequencing power of NGS, the short-read length strategy creates serious limitations in many biological applications. The genome of the cichlid fish A. latifasciata has been explored before as a model to investigate the B chromosome problem. The assembly of A. latifasciata genome has not been performed so far. The main focus of this study is to analyze and assemble the A. latifasciata genome with no B chromosomes (0B) based in high coverage data obtained by Illumina and PacBio platforms. Furthermore, high coverage data obtained with Illumina sequencing will be obtained for males and females with 0B, 1B and 2B genomes. This may be helpful to provide information regarding the polymorphism of B genomes of the A. latifascita. The assembly of A. latifasciata genome opens the perspective to advance understanding B chromosomes biology and also can contribute to the known ledge of the astonishing evolutionary history of African cichlids.
